Saker Compass Boots: Adventure-Ready for Your Next Big Trek
Finding the perfect boots for our pups can end up being the real adventure. Will they stay on? Will my dog wear them without a big fuss? Will my dog be comfortable?
We ended up going with the Saker Compass Boots as we use and love several of their other products. We’ve found they offer great protection and comfort for our dogs’ paws and have become a must-have for our adventures.

One of the biggest challenges we ran into when trying various brands of boots was finding ones that actually stay securely on our dogs’ paws.
The Compass Boots come with an elastic velcro strap that helps keep the boot snug around the dog’s leg. We have the Long Compass Boots (pictured above), and they come with two elastic velcro straps. Plus, they are designed to respect a dog’s natural movements, providing flexibility and breathability.
When looking for dog boots, fit is super important. We’ve found that the Compass Boots fit snugly and are still comfortable. Piper adjusted to them quickly and doesn’t seem bothered by them at all.
To fit the Compass boots properly, make sure your dog’s paw is placed as far as possible into the boot and tighten the velcro strap just enough to fit a pinky underneath. This ensures a secure, comfortable fit. We’ve been using the boots for about a year now and haven’t lost one yet.
This style of boots is designed to let your dog feel the ground.

Exploring the Features of Saker Compass Boots

We originally purchased these boots to protect our pup’s paws from foxtails and cheatgrass. She has very fluffy toes, a magnet for these awful pokey plants. We’ve since tested them on many hiking trails and have not been disappointed. They are tough, breathable, and perfect for long adventures. We’re very pleased with this product and wanted to share our experience and opinions.
The Build and Durability
Boots need to last, especially when we’re out on rugged terrain. The Saker Compass Boots are made with high-quality UHMWPE Cut-level 5 material, which can take a beating while protecting our dog’s paws.
They have a lifetime warranty, so if they pierce or fail, you’re covered. We have yet to experience this, and we’ve put some miles on them! But it gives us peace of mind in the event we manage to wear them out. Saker Canine has excellent customer service, which is one of the reasons we love their products so much.
Breathable for Daily Treks
Let’s talk about comfort.
The boots are designed to be breathable.
They do not have soles, which enables our dog to better feel the terrain. This also helps reduce the odds of injuries related to slipping. It is important to note that because they don’t have soles, they are not suitable for hot pavement.
Saker Compass Boots are a great option for daily treks where breathability and comfort matter, whether it’s hot, cold, or snowy outside.
Cut-Resistant Material
They are almost impossible to cut and can handle whatever nature throws at them, whether it’s sharp rocks or broken bottles. And in our case, pokey fox tails! We’ve had ZERO instances of fox tails in Piper’s paws since using these booties.
The cut-resistant design means we can trek through various terrains with more confidence, knowing her paws are well protected.
The Size and Fit Guide
Saker Compass Boots come in two versions: Long Boots and Short Boots. They come in three different sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. Let’s chat about how to pick the perfect size and discuss the different height options available.
Finding the Perfect Size
Be sure to check out the Size Chart to get the proper fit. The chart is easy to-follow based on the width of our dog’s paws.
Here’s a quick table to help:
Paw Width | Recommended Size |
---|---|
3.1 * 4.7″ (7.9*12 cm) | Small |
3.5 * 5.1″ (8.9*12.9 cm) | Medium |
3.9 * 5.5″ (9.9*14 cm) | Large / X-Large |
Measure your dog’s paws at the widest point. It’s best to do this while they’re standing to get the most accurate measurement.
If the paws fall between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort.
Short and Tall Tales of Saker Boots
Saker Compass Boots come in short and long versions.
The short boots have a simple design and are great for everyday walks or city adventures. They’re perfect for summer and are easy to put on and take off.
The long boots are great if your pup has issues keeping their boots on. We opted for the long boots and they haven’t fallen off once. They’re perfect for rough terrains like hiking or snowy paths. They provide a snug fit up to our dog’s lower leg.
When using in snow, note that they are best in powdery conditions. If I know conditions will be icy or super slick, since they don’t have soles, these aren’t the best option.
Both versions have adjustable velcro straps for a custom fit. Tighten the velcro straps so you can just fit your pinky underneath the velcro, and you’re good to go.
