Saker harnesses are not your typical dog gear. The original Ascension and Canyon models are the first modular harness of their kind, with benefits like crash-tested versions to keep your dog safe in the car. The original Ascension harness is what brought us to Saker and we loved it so much that we upgraded to the Canyon series for even more adventures.

As of the (re)writing of this post (March 2025) the latest version – the MUSE harness – has just been released and we are very excited about this!

Meet the Muse Harness: Your Dog’s New Adventure Partner

We are regularly out hiking and camping with our dogs, and that’s why we’re super excited about the latest harness creation from Saker – the Muse.

The Muse harness has taken into consideration feedback from customers on the previous two versions (the Ascension and Canyon series) and stands out thanks to its thoughtful design. We love how it features a neck buckle, so there’s no awkward struggle to get it over our dog’s head. This is an awesome upgrade from the flagship Ascension harness. Plus, its Y-shape prevents scapula restriction and avoids chafing in sensitive areas, which gives our dogs the freedom to move.

Features at a Glance:

  • Neck Buckle: No more passing over the head
  • Y-Shape Design: Prevents scapula restriction
  • Chafe-Free Fit: Keeps those underarms happy

To add to its charm, it’s described as a must-have for every activity on TikTok. Imagine the joy of taking our pooch on a “sniffari” with confidence that their harness will keep them safe and comfortable.

For those of us who enjoy hiking, Säker’s collection of dog gear, including the Muse, is all about quality and durability. We can absolutely see this latest version becoming a staple in our day-to-day walks and hikes, as reflected by its popularity on Instagram.

Saker Canine - Muse Harness

Think of the Muse Harness as your dog’s ultimate multitool. On its own, it’s a sleek, reliable harness—perfect for everyday walks or quick outings. But here’s where it gets exciting: with the right add-ons, it transforms into a dog pack, an emergency sling, or even a light traction harness.

Why does this matter? Well, it means less gear to haul around, less clutter in your kit, and more flexibility for every adventure. Whether you’re hiking a rugged trail, exploring the city, or prepping for an unexpected situation, the Muse has you covered.

Plus, it’s a win for your wallet and the planet. Streamline your setup, save money, and cut down on waste—all while giving your pup the freedom to explore in style.

Key Features of the Saker Harness

The Saker harness offers a top-tier ergonomic design, innovative safety elements, and unbeatable durability.

Ergonomic Design and Comfort

When it comes to feeling comfy and ready for an adventure, the Saker Harness hits the mark! It’s like it’s been designed with our dogs’ happiness in mind. The first thing that stands out is its freedom of movement. It’s great watching our pups run around without feeling like they’re stuck in their gear.

The material, high-quality nylon, feels soft yet is strong, making it perfect for our daily walks. We love the multiple adjustment points that accommodate different dog shapes. Our experience with two very different German Shepherds shows these harnesses fit like a dream, whether for a sleek athlete or a fluffy giant.

And let’s talk about the padding. Long walks or hikes aren’t an issue because of the padded areas that keep chafing at bay, making everything cozy—just how we like it.

Innovative Safety Elements

Safety is our top priority, especially during spontaneous nighttime walks or early morning jogs. The Saker Canyon Pro has unbeatable safety features that we love.

A standout feature we really appreciate is the Cobra-style buckles made from aluminum alloy. They not only add to the aesthetics but are also super durable. We know our dogs are secure with these robust, quick-release buckles that are perfect for emergencies. NOTE: aluminum alloy buckles are only available on the Canyon Pro and Ascension. We have received word that Saker is working on a version for the new Muse harness but as of this writing, it isn’t available yet.

Traveling with our dogs has never been safer! This harness is crash-tested (Ascension and Canyon Pro versions!) and can be directly belted to a car seatbelt. We can hit the road knowing our dogs are protected. Multiple attachment points also let us choose the best way to leash up, whether for a hike or a casual walk.

The Canyon Pro is our go-to for our powerful, reactive dog Scout thanks to its metal buckles. While the Canyon Light is fantastic for less intense situations with its plastic buckles, it isn’t crash-safe. For those of you concerned about car safety, the Canyon Pro is the way to go.

Durability and Build Quality

Durability is where the Saker Harness truly shines. Built to withstand the intensity of our bustling lives, it’s made from premium nylon, which stands resilient against our pups’ antics and our adventurous lifestyle.

From hiking in forests to playing fetch on the beach, the build quality of this harness is impressive and it’s what sold us on this brand. Every component, from the straps to the buckles, oozes quality. The meticulous stitching means wear and tear are hard to spot even after extensive use.

Living on the Oregon Coast tested our gear in harsh weather, and we were blown away by how the metal components resisted rust and corrosion. The Pacific Northwest’s reputation for being tough on stuff didn’t stand a chance against our resilient Saker harness!

Aside from its durability, we don’t overlook the harness’s stylish design. Our pups not only feel great but look great too.

And for the moments you need assurance, Saker offers a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. From personal experience, the process is hassle-free, adding to the reasons we are loyal to Saker products. The durability and commitment to customer satisfaction truly make this harness (and brand) a winner in our eyes.

Harness Fit and Adjustability

It’s important to get a harness for your dog that fits well and also ensures their safety. Let’s discuss how to achieve the ideal fit and the flexibility that a good harness provides.

Attaining the Perfect Fit

Getting the perfect fit for our dog’s harness is super important for their comfort and safety. We start by measuring our dog’s neck, chest, and tummy. Thankfully, Säker harnesses offer multiple adjustment points, which makes this easier for us.

When we’re adjusting, the goal is to make sure the chest and belly straps are snug. Not too tight, though—we should be able to slide two fingers under the straps. The back section needs to sit comfortably too, spreading any pressure evenly so our pup feels good and we can control them easily without yanking their neck.

Having these adjustment features means we can get that perfect fit without causing discomfort or chafing.

Flexibility and Freedom of Movement

We all want our dogs to move freely, and that’s exactly what these harnesses allow. They’re crafted from materials like nylon and aluminum alloy, making the harness strong yet comfy.

Multiple attachment points for the leash give us loads of choices for activities. Whether we’re out walking, hiking, or just playing, this harness has us covered.

A feature we appreciate is the ability to attach a leash at the back of the harness. This is perfect for uphill hikes where our dog can help us out—like having our own little furry tow truck! 🙂

Adventuring Safely: Saker for Active Dogs

Harnessing Up for Adventure Dogs

When we head out with our adventure dogs, keeping them comfy and safe is our priority. The Saker harness is perfect for this.

It has sturdy, adjustable straps and fits all shapes and sizes of dogs. (Check out the sizing page on their website! There are various photos of different-sized and shaped dogs wearing harnesses.) It’s designed for tackling the wild, while the backpack feature allows our dogs to carry essentials like water, snacks, and you-know-what bags.

A standout feature of the Canyon Pro harness is its tough, weather-resistant material. We’ve hiked in various conditions (sunny, rainy, snowy) and this harness keeps up.

Escape-Proofing for the Wily Pup

Ever had an escape artist for a dog? I see you husky owners… One moment our dogs are happily bouncing along, and the next, they’ve somehow pulled a Houdini. But the Saker harness has an escape-proof design that stops even the sneakiest pups in their tracks.

The extended harness version offers multiple buckles for the clever, quick-turning furballs who think they can wiggle out. The secure chest and belly straps evenly spread pressure, reducing the chance of slip-ups. It’s peace of mind for us and security for them, which is a win-win when we want relaxed walks over frantic chases.

Traveling with Your Dog

We go on a lot of road trips and safety is a top priority. A reliable harness can make all the difference in ensuring a smooth journey.

Car Safety Essentials

Keeping our dogs safe during road trips is a big deal for us. We always buckle up, so our dogs should too! The key to a stress-free ride is a crash-tested harness like the Saker Pro series.

This harness can handle up to 3,567 lbs, and it features a handy neck buckle and adjustable chest strap. It’s not just about safety in accidents; it also keeps our dogs from wandering around, so we can focus on driving.

We can easily secure the harness using our car’s seatbelt. The reflective material is a bonus for evening trips, making our dogs visible in low light.

Did we mention the handle? It’s super useful for lifting our pups in and out of the car. And if we’re out on a hike, it helps us keep them close if someone’s passing on the trail.

NOTE – As of the writing of this post the MUSE version of the harness isn’t crash tested. However, we hear this is in the works and will be released soon!

One Harness for All Occasions

Our adventures wouldn’t be complete without a versatile harness. The cool part about the Saker harness is that we don’t need a bunch of different ones. Whether we’re going on a car ride, taking a walk, or heading on a camping trip, this one does it all.

It has several attachment points, making it easy to switch from car mode to walking mode. This means no fumbling around when swapping over. We love how it’s designed with comfort in mind. Its ergonomic fit ensures our dogs don’t end up feeling cramped or uncomfortable.

Plus, the tough design takes on outdoor challenges like a pro, from hiking trails to long walks. This makes it a go-to choice for anything we want to do with our pups!

The Versatility of Leash Attachments

The leash attachments are designed with both flexibility and practicality in mind.

Front clips allow for better control and the extended attachment options provide more versatility.

Convenient Front and Back Clips

We love that the Saker canine harness comes with both front and back clips. It gives us the freedom to choose how we want to lead our dogs.

The front clip is brilliant for training. It helps keep our dogs right by our side, which is so helpful when they’re learning not to pull. With the front clip, walking becomes a more relaxed and pleasant experience.

For those casual strolls, the back clip is perfect. It allows our furry friends a bit more freedom to explore, yet they’re safely attached. Plus, it’s super cozy for them, making it great for leisurely walks.

Switching between the clips is quick since they’re designed to be user-friendly. They’re also strong enough to handle whatever type of leash we prefer. If we’re in the mood for a hike, the back clip has an option for extended leash attachment, letting our dogs move more freely.

Extended Attachment Options

Now, think of a harness that can adjust to fit not just our dog’s body but also our lifestyle. That’s what the Saker harness does with its adjustable attachment points.

With several flexible points to attach a leash, we can customize the fit perfectly for our dog’s needs. Depending on the model, there are five to seven adjustment options, ensuring both comfort and security.

One great thing about the extended attachment options is the support it provides for extras. We can add on dog packs, which we find super handy for hikes.

It’s amazing to see our dogs carrying their supplies, like water and those oh-so-important poop bags. This gives us the flexibility to adjust quickly based on the day’s adventure.

There’s also peace of mind knowing the harness is built to last. With a sturdy design backed by lifetime protection, it’s an investment in our dog’s ongoing comfort and safety.

Warranty Information

Talking warranties might sound a bit dull, but when it’s about our favorite gear, it becomes important. The Saker Harness comes with a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.

We once had a minor issue with a harness and reached out to Säker’s customer service. They were fantastic, resolving our issue promptly. Knowing we can rely on their friendly support whenever needed gives us even more confidence in their products.

Additionally, they have a Facebook group called The Saker Pack. We love how welcoming and helpful that community is. Asking questions there is easy, and the responses come from both representatives and fellow users. It’s comforting to be part of a group that’s as passionate about dog adventures as we are. That’s why Saker Canine remains our top choice for dog gear.
