One thing we love is the full-coverage design that protects her hips and thighs. It even has a storm collar for extra protection. Which we need here in the rainy Pacific Northwest!

The relaxed fit and leg loops are perfect for keeping the coat in place, even when it gets windy. The reflective accents are a great safety feature for evening walks.

Bottom Line

Looking to keep your dog dry and stylish in wet weather? The Ruffwear Sun Shower Dog Raincoat is a fantastic choice.

Its waterproof design and comfortable fit make it a must-have for rainy-day adventures.

Ruffwear Sun Shower Dog Raincoat

Rainy walks are just easier with the Sun Shower raincoat. It’s a lightweight jacket that keeps our dog dry and happy.

It gets rainy and windy where we live so we needed a jacket with a full-coverage design. This jacket ticks that box – It extends over our dog’s hips and thighs, with a large storm collar for extra shielding.

Putting it on is super easy thanks to the side-release buckles. The leash portal is handy for harness users.

One thing that stands out is the visibility. Reflective accents and an option to attach a light mean our dog can stay seen in low light.

The only downside? It might not be warm enough on its own during a chilly winter rain. But layering solves that problem.

Multi-Season Versatility

The Ruffwear raincoat truly shines across different seasons.

In spring and fall, its lightweight and non-insulated design keeps our dog comfy in the rain without overheating. We have a long-coated dog so this is important.

Come winter, we layer it over a mid-layer to add warmth and protection.

The raincoat’s full coverage, especially around the hips and thighs, keeps our dog dry even in heavy downpours.

It’s practical, and we love the bright hibiscus pink color for our pup Piper. It’s easily noticeable which is a huge plus for evening walks. It does come in other colors if pink isn’t your thing. (Shades of brown, blue, and yellow.)

We’ve tried several other jackets and had our fair share of struggles with them slipping off or being hard to put on, but the side-release buckles on this one save us from any fuss.

Full Body Coverage

Let’s talk about what really matters when it’s pouring and our furry friends still need their walks—full body coverage. Especially when you have a ridiculously floofy pup like we do!

The Ruffwear Sun Shower Dog Raincoat does an impressive job. It offers extended coverage around the hips and thighs, which keeps more of our dog dry. The oversized storm collar is a nice touch, giving extra protection to the neck area.

On the other hand, we did find that in heavy wind, the leg loops can be a bit fussy. They help keep the jacket in place, but can sometimes shift.

Still, for a lightweight raincoat, it does an admirable job of shielding our pup from the elements.

The reflective accents are a perk for early morning or late evening walks, helping our dog stay visible.

Essentially, it’s not perfect, but it’s pretty good for keeping our dog dry and comfy. Piper approves. 🙂 For reference, she’s 80 pounds and is wearing a size XL in the picture below.

For reference, Piper is 80 pounds and this is a size XL.

Comfortable and Secure Fit

When we put the Ruffwear Sun Shower Dog Raincoat on our dog for the first time, we noticed how well it fits.

Our pup could move around with ease thanks to its relaxed design. It’s nice to see that our dog doesn’t feel restricted.

The leg loops really do their job during windy days. They keep the coat in place without making our dog uncomfortable.

We’ve seen jackets that need constant adjusting, but this one seems to stay put with minimal fuss.

One thing that we did find a bit tricky at first was the side-release buckles. They were a little hard to manage when Piper was super excited to go out. She can be a bit wiggly.

However, once we got the hang of it, these buckles became much easier to use.

The stand-out feature for us was the oversized storm collar. It offers extra protection, helping to keep our dog dry and comfy even in heavy rain.

Visibility Features

Taking our dogs out at dawn or dusk can be tricky, especially with low light. The raincoat’s design takes care of that problem.

The reflective accents make sure cars can see us from a distance.

Plus, the integrated light loop allows us to attach The Beacon light, which is sold separately but really handy.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Let’s talk about the good stuff first.

  • Weather Protection: This raincoat really holds up against the elements. It keeps our dog dry even in heavy rain. Plus, the oversized storm collar is such a nice touch for extra protection.
  • Comfortable Fit: We love the relaxed fit. It doesn’t restrict our dog’s movement, and the leg loops keep everything in place, even on windy days.
  • Visibility: Those reflective accents are a lifesaver during early morning or late evening walks. We feel much safer knowing our pup is visible.
  • Easy to Use: The side-release buckles make it super easy to put on and take off. No hassle, which is always a win.
  • Durable: It’s lightweight, yet well-made. Despite being thin, it’s held up well and looks like it will last us a long time.

Cons

Now, let’s get into some areas where there’s room for improvement.

  • Sizing Issues: We did notice that the sizing can be a bit tricky. It runs a bit large, so make sure to double-check the measurements before buying.
  • Pricey: It is on the expensive side. While it delivers on quality, it might be more than what some folks want to spend on a dog raincoat.
  • Thin Material: The raincoat is lightweight, but not the best for rough play. If your dog likes to roughhouse, it might not hold up as well.

Customer Praise and Critiques

We really like this raincoat but wanted to see what others had to say, so we poked around on the Internet to check out reviews.

Many people rave about the fit and like the flashy Hibiscus Pink color. It also comes in shades of brown, blue, and yellow.

One thing we love is that this jacket does what it promises—keeping our furry friends dry and comfy. Other reviewers agree.

That said, some (ourselves included) noticed that it runs a tad large. For those with smaller pups, finding the perfect size might be tricky, especially if you’re right on the edge between two sizes.

While it’s lightweight and easy to get on and off, a few mentioned it might not suit rough-and-tumble situations. If you have multiple dogs that like to play rough, this jacket might not be a good fit.

Despite its higher price tag, most reviewers generally agree it’s worth it for the quality and weather protection.

PIN IT FOR LATER!

Conclusion

After giving the Ruffwear Sun Shower Raincoat a good trial, we feel comfortable recommending it to others and feel that it’s a solid choice.

Our dog has stayed dry during countless rainy walks.

We like the vibrant color, it adds a fun touch while the reflective strips keep our pup visible, which is important for safety.

On the flip side, it might be a bit tricky to get on at first, and it does run a tad large.

However, we found the coverage around the hips and thighs to be exactly what we needed.

So, while it’s not perfect, it’s a well-designed raincoat that serves its purpose well.
