Dogs are our best friends, and they deserve the best adventures! Taking our furry pals to fun places not only makes them happy but also strengthens our bond.

There’s no shortage of exciting spots to visit with our pups. From dog-friendly parks in Ottawa to scenic hiking trails and even boat rides, the options are endless. We love seeing the joy on our dogs’ faces as they experience new sights, sounds, and smells.

Let’s dive into some amazing places we can take our four-legged friends. Whether it’s a local dog park or an adventurous road trip, we’ll explore ideas that will have our pups wagging their tails with excitement.

A Day at the Beach

Dog-Friendly Beaches

Do you live within driving distance of the ocean? Taking your pup to the beach can fill a day with sun, sand, and water. When looking for the perfect destination, consider checking out some of the best dog-friendly beaches in the U.S.. One perfect spot to visit with your pup is the beautiful Fort De Soto Park in St. Petersburg, Florida, where dog can roam free and even play at the dedicated Paw Playground.

If you’re in SoCal check out Huntington Dog Beach! Or cruise down to San Diego and check out their dog-friendly beaches, where your buddy can play in the surf and make new friends. On the East Coast, Asbury Park’s 8th Avenue Dog Beach in New Jersey is another great option for beachside fun with your canine companion.

On the Oregon Coast, pets are welcome at the beach. If you are in a State Park, your dog must be leashed. Otherwise, the beach has no leash requirements; however, your dogs must always be under voice control and visible to you.

Our favorite beach to visit in Oregon is Pacific City. There is a massive 400-foot-tall dune, and our dogs love chasing each other up and down the big hill. Vehicles are also allowed on this beach, so it’s a great place to picnic and throw the ball for your dog or splash with them in the surf.

Dog Safety at the Beach

To ensure a fun and safe time at the beach, remember these guidelines:

  • Keep your dog on a leash when necessary, especially if you are close to other beachgoers.
  • Protect their paws from hot sand, sharp shells, and other hazards.
  • Bring a life jacket for your dog if they’ll be swimming in deeper waters or you’re taking them on a boat ride. Life jackets help keep them secure and visible.
  • Be sure to provide shade and water for your pup to stay cool and hydrated throughout the day.

Beachside Restaurants

After a long day of fun at the beach, you and your furry friend deserve a treat! Many coastal cities offer dog-friendly restaurants with outdoor seating, making it easy to dine al fresco with your companion. Whether you’re in San Diego, St. Petersburg, or Asbury Park, take advantage of the local dog-friendly vacation spots that will welcome you and your pup, and together you can create unforgettable memories by the sea.

Pacific City in Oregon also has wonderful restaurants with dog-friendly patios and picnic tables where you can dine with your pets when the weather is nice. Check out BJ’s Burgers and Tacos, Pelican Brewing, and Beach Walk!

Outdoor Adventures

Hiking with Your Dog

One of our favorite activities to do with our dogs is hiking. Countless dog-friendly hiking trails across the country offer varied scenery and difficulty levels. From easy nature trails to challenging mountain paths, there’s something for every dog and owner to enjoy together.

Pack plenty of water and snacks for you and your pup on the trail. Keep your dog on a leash and always clean up after them. Consider bringing your dog a small collapsible water bowl and a comfortable harness to avoid strain on their neck.

Exploring National Parks

Exploring national parks is another great way to spend time outdoors with your dog. Many national parks have designated dog-friendly trails and areas where you can enjoy a hike or simply take in the breathtaking scenery with your four-legged friend.

Some popular parks to visit with your dog include Acadia National Park in Maine, Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. Check the park’s website for specific dog policies when planning your adventure, as many do have restricted areas where dogs are not allowed.

While exploring these picturesque landscapes, you may encounter streams or lakes, which can be great for cooling off on a hot day. Slip a life jacket on your dog for a refreshing kayak ride , or let them take a quick dip in the water to cool off.

Camping with Dogs

If you’ve spent any time on our blog, you’ll know that we love camping with our dogs, as it allows for a true immersion in nature. Whether you have a small dog or a large one, bring them along on your next camping trip to share the experience of sleeping under the stars, waking up to the sound of birds, and spending your days outside.

Find dog-friendly campgrounds that provide amenities such as designated play areas, agility equipment, or even dog-friendly fishing spots. Some campgrounds will even allow your dog to join you on activities such as boat rides or cross-country skiing!

The Pacific Northwest also has an abundance of public BLM land where you can camp off-grid with your dogs without worrying about the rules of a campground. This is where we spend most of our time camping, and while you don’t have the accommodations of a campground, it’s a way to truly escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the solitude of nature.

Ensure your tent is large enough to accommodate you and your dog comfortably. Bring a cozy dog bed or pad for your pup to sleep on, and don’t forget their favorite toys to keep them entertained and occupied during downtime.

If glamping is more your style, there are many interesting and unique accommodations, including cabins, yurts, RV parks, and more! Check out our blog post on Glamping for ideas!

City Getaways

Dog Parks and Off-Leash Areas

Dog parks and off-leash areas are awesome places for our furry friends to run free and socialize. We love taking our dogs to these spaces for exercise and fun.

Understanding Dog Park Etiquette

When we visit off-leash dog parks, it’s important to follow some basic rules. We always keep an eye on our pups and clean up after them. Bringing waste bags is a must!

Make sure our dogs are friendly and well-behaved before letting them off-leash. It’s not cool to bring aggressive dogs or puppies that are too young.

Sharing is caring at the park. We don’t hog toys or space and be mindful of other dogs and their owners. Being respectful makes the experience better for everyone.

Finding the Best Dog Parks

The best dog parks have plenty of space for our pooches to roam. We look for parks with at least 5 acres of green space where dogs can run and play.

Good parks have:

  • Secure fencing
  • Separate areas for small and large dogs
  • Water stations
  • Shade for hot days
  • Benches for us humans

We love parks with fun features like agility equipment or swimming areas. These extras make the visit even more exciting for our dogs.

If you find yourself visiting Oregon, you must check out dog-friendly Bend! This beautiful city has abundant outdoor space for dogs to roam and is home to our favorite dog park, Big Sky. This park has vast acres of off-leash areas, including many trails to explore with your pooch.

Touring Cities with Your Dog

We love taking our dogs on city tours designed just for pups and their humans. Many cities offer walking tours that welcome dogs. These tours let us see the sights while our pooches get some exercise.

Some tours even provide treats and water for our pups. It’s a great way to learn about a city’s history and architecture with our dogs by our side.

Check out San Diego’s Gaslamp Pet Parade, where you can stroll through the historic district with your furry companion. Check out Bark About in Washington, which hosts curated dog-focused events and walks around town. Don’t forget to explore Arizona’s beautiful desert landscape with a bike or running tour with your pup

We’ve found that ghost tours and food tours are often dog-friendly too. Just be sure to check the rules ahead of time.

Cuisine and Canines

Eating out with our dogs has gotten so much easier. Lots of restaurants now offer dog-friendly patios where our pups can join us for a meal.

Some cities have entire dog menus at certain eateries. It’s fun to order a special treat for our furry dining companions.

Food trucks and brewery beer gardens are often great spots for pup-friendly dining too. We love relaxing with a cold drink while our dogs make new friends.

Some cities even have “yappy hours” at local pubs where dogs are welcome inside. It’s a blast to socialize with other dog owners in a laid-back setting.

Snowy Escapes

Snowy Activities for Dogs

We love taking our dogs on adventures, especially during the winter months. There are plenty of activities for both you and your dog to enjoy in the snow. One popular snow activity is hiking. Michigan, for example, offers gorgeous wintery trails that are perfect for a scenic hike with your pup.

In the Pacific Northwest, there are miles of trails where you can snowshoe while hiking with your adventure pup!

In North Carolina, you can explore the beautiful snowy landscapes together. If your dog is a little more adventurous, you might want to try skijoring. Skijoring is a fun sport where your dog pulls you on skis, and it’s an exciting way to bond with your pet while getting exercise outdoors.

When it comes to dog-friendly ski spots, Vermont is a top choice. The Green Mountain State boasts several pet-friendly resorts and slopes where you and your dog can hit the trails together. Additionally, Colorado is home to Snow Mountain Ranch, a fantastic snow destination with dog-friendly trails right outside Winter Park.

In Aspen, your dog can enjoy the snow alongside you as you explore this posh town’s world-class restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. Aspen is an ideal dog-friendly winter vacation spot for pups who adore the snow.

Remember, when planning a snowy escape with your four-legged friend, always consider their comfort and safety in cold conditions. And don’t forget to pack warm clothing, booties, and gear for both of you. Happy exploring!

Taking a trip with your furry friend is a fantastic way to create memorable experiences and bond with them. To help you plan the perfect getaway, we’ve compiled a list of dog-friendly locations where you can relax and unwind with your pup. Shopping with Your Dog

Shopping with Your Pup

More stores are opening their doors to well-behaved dogs these days. We enjoy browsing pet stores with our pups to pick out new toys and treats together.

Many outdoor shopping centers and malls allow leashed dogs in common areas. Some even have special pet-friendly spaces like patios or green areas for a rest break.

We always look for signs about pet policies before entering shops. And we make sure to bring poop bags just in case.

If you visit the Oregon Coast, check out the Lincoln City Outlet Mall! It is dog-friendly, and dogs are allowed in the stores. We shop here often, and smiling associates greet my pup with treats!

When planning a shopping trip with your dog, consider the following:

  • Weather conditions: Avoid hot days, as the pavement can be too hot for your dog’s paws or cold on snowy days.
  • Timing: Go during less busy hours to minimize stress for your dog and other shoppers.

Pet Store Essentials

A great place to start shopping with your dog is a pet store where you and your pup can explore new products and essentials. We often take our dogs to the local pet store and let them pick their treats!

Here’s a list of items you might consider picking up during your shopping trip:

  • Food and treats: Stock up on your dog’s favorite food and treats, keeping their dietary needs and preferences in mind.
  • Toys: Find new toys that engage your dog’s mind and body, like puzzles or fetch tools.
  • Grooming supplies: Ensure your dog looks sharp with grooming tools such as brushes, nail clippers, and shampoos.
  • Leashes and collars: Update your dog’s walking gear with a new leash, collar, or harness for added comfort and style.
  • Bedding: Provide your dog with a comfortable and supportive bed to rest after a day of shopping together.

Remember, when shopping with your dog, always be mindful of their comfort and the other patrons around you.

Special Treats

Dog-Friendly Cafe Treats

Taking your pup out for a treat is an exciting adventure for you and your dog. Many cafes now offer dog-friendly options to enjoy alongside your beverage or snack. One popular option is the “puppuccino,” a small cup filled with whipped cream that dogs can’t resist. It’s a great way for your furry friend to feel included in your coffee date while satisfying their sweet tooth.

Apart from puppuccinos, some cafes have dedicated dog menus or treats for your canine companion. For example, you might find specialty dog biscuits, doggie ice creams, or even canine-inspired food truck events where you can explore various options. Always check in with the cafe staff to ensure these treats are safe and appropriate for your dog’s specific dietary needs.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, most drive-thru coffee shops have treats for dogs, and many gas stations do, too!

Specialty Dog Bakeries

If you want something extra special for your four-legged friend, consider visiting a specialty dog bakery. These bakeries create one-of-a-kind, delicious dog treats designed to cater specifically to our canine companions. From custom-made doggie cakes to celebrate your pet’s birthday to nutritional and gourmet dog treats, these bakeries offer endless options for spoiling your pup.

We’ve seen some specialty dog bakeries that even create doggie cookies shaped like bones or paws, using healthy and dog-safe ingredients. Some popular flavors include peanut butter, pumpkin, apple, and cinnamon. These bakeries are a dog’s paradise, offering delectable and innovative treats that will become your dog’s new favorites.

By visiting dog-friendly cafes and specialty dog bakeries, we can take our dogs on fun and tasty adventures they’ll love. These special treats help create unforgettable bonding experiences with our furry friends while delighting their taste buds.

Learning New Tricks

We can take our pups on exciting learning adventures. Agility courses offer a fun way to challenge our dogs physically and mentally. We can set up obstacle courses in our backyard or join local classes.

It’s amazing to watch our dogs learn to weave through poles and jump over hurdles.

Scent work is another great option. We can hide treats or toys around the house or yard and let our dogs use their noses to find them. This taps into their natural instincts and provides mental stimulation. There are lots of great videos on YouTube to help you teach your dog scent work.

Trick training is also a blast. We can teach our dogs to spin, roll over, or even balance treats on their noses. The key is to keep sessions short and fun.

Themed Dog Events

Dog-friendly events are popping up everywhere. We can attend yappy hours at local bars or restaurants where our dogs can socialize while we enjoy a drink. Some places even offer “puppuccinos” – a special treat for our furry friends.

Dog festivals are another fun option. These often feature costume contests, agility demonstrations, and vendor booths with unique dog products. It’s a great way to meet other dog lovers and discover new activities.

We can also look for breed-specific meetups. It’s fun to see a bunch of golden retrievers or pugs playing together. Do you have a Corgi? Check out Corgi Beach Day in Huntington Beach!
